Northwest Component of the Angle Society
The Edward H. Angle Society of Orthodontists consists of seven Components within North America whose membership has international affiliations - our Component is called the Northwest Component.
The purpose of the angle society is best stated in excerpts taken from the Preamble and Purpose in the constitution and the by-laws of the Edward H. Angle Society.
"The main purposes of the Edward H. Angle Society are:
a. To promote education standards for the training of the orthodontist.
b. To promote research research in the art and science of orthodontics and related basic sciences.
c. To publish and disseminate the results of such research which will contribute to the advancement of the standards and ideals of the specialty of orthodontics.
Within all Components of the Angle Society there are four types of membership: Regular members, Senior Active members, Senior Retired members, and Affiliate members. Regular members of any Component are also Regular members of the Central Body of the Edward H. Angle Society of Orthodontists Inc..
Regular members must make, from time to time, contributions to the scientific sessions of the regular Component meeting, or to the specialty of orthodontics, in order to satisfy requirements by our Study Committee. Regular members are required to keep a positive score in our "Point System". After receiving three points as a new Regular member, each year one point is subtracted from a member's point score requiring the member to continue to make contributions in order to maintain a positive "Point Score".
The scientific part of the Components meetings come from our members and occasionally from invited guest speakers. Presentations deemed worthy are considered for presentation at the biennial Edward H. Angle Society of Orthodontists, Inc. (Central Body) meeting and/or for publication in the Angle Orthodontist.
The Northwest Component has a two day meeting usually in the moth of February and a one day meeting in the month of June each year. The Central Body of the Angle Society meets every other year on the odd numbered years. The Central Body meeting is a four or five day meeting held in various locations in the United States and occasionally in nearby countries.
